Unit Definition
One unit will produce 1 μmole of o-nitrophenol from 2-nitrophenyl β-D-glucopyranoside per minute at pH 5.8 at 70 °C.
Physical form
Supplied as a solution in 50 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, 100 mM NaCl, and 25% glycerol.
Application
β-Glucosidase is a lysosomal enzyme which breaks β1->4 bonds that link oligosaccharides. β-Glucosidase is used to study Gaucher disease and potential treatments such as enzyme replacement therapy 1.
Biochem/physiol Actions
A deficiency of β-Glucosidase results in Gaucher disease, which is the most prevalent lysosomal storage disorder. Acid β-Glucosidase cleaves the β-Glucosidase bond of it substrates, which are intermediates of globoside and ganglioside catabolism1. Product G8798 exhibits exo-cellulase, β-xylosidase and β-glucosidase activities and does not possess endo-xylanase, arabinoxylanase or β-glucanase activities.
